Eating Your Rainbow of Colors…

There’s so much controversy about what to eat…and what to not eat.  Finally, the FDA has banned trans-fats as they’re completely unhealthy (think processed muffins, cakes, crackers, and cookies.)  However, on a broader level, what should we really be eating?

Both the FDA and Food Standards Agency have tried to develop different Food Plates and Pyramids – each with their own flaws.   The Functional Medicine Food Color Wheel takes a new approach as a guideline to include healthy foods by eating a rainbow of colors. 

Pinning the Color Wheel to the fridge door can serve as a great reminder to add-in a variety of colorful foods for maximum phyto-nutrient benefit.  It doesn’t look to restrict foods, but instead suggests adding foods with a wide color variety.  These foods (mostly fruits and vegetables) offer tremendous health benefits through phyto-nutrients – and these are provided by mother nature herself!

We also find that clients reach their weight and nutrition goals more quickly when they forget about calorie counting and simply focus on adding in the good stuff.

So, go ahead…..add in these foods….they will help to crowd out the bad ones… and automatically increase the nutrient quality of your diet.
